Almost every day, when a student asks for a book suggestion, I say, "This is my favorite part of my job." I genuinely mean it. I ask them questions about what they like and I start pulling books. I ask them to read the back or the first page of each book and sort them into yes, no, and maybe piles. I keep pulling books based on how they're sorting the ones I've already given them. I'm good at it and I love it. Helping a kid find their next favorite book is a gift to me as much as to them.
