Atlanta Traffic

today I had my absolute worst Atlanta traffic  experience ever. Korra and I went to my school To do some work on the farm. My school is 2.7 miles from our house. It took us 58 minutes to get home. This was not during rush-hour traffic. This was on a Saturday afternoon. Every side street was bumper-to-bumper traffic. It was absolutely insane. I'm ready to move. Immediately.

Bad Mood

I'm in a bad mood.  I'm feeling overwhelmed preparing for and thinking about next week.
Hopefully a very chill evening and a fun weekend will help reset my mood.

Upcoming Book Fair

Next week is the Spring Book Fair, so this week is very full of preparations.  With the exception of not having enough volunteers (yet), I think I'm ready.  I've even planned meals Korra can cook to make the week go even more smoothly.

Another Allergic Reaction

About an hour after I had my allergy injections on Tuesday, I had a reaction.  My face and ears were hot and red and my throat felt a little funny.  I took some Benadryl and monitored (and kept my EpiPen nearby) but it passed in a few hours.  Of course, when I called my doctor they want to see me again.  Like it's not bad enough to have these reactions- the traffic on the drive home from their office has gotten insane due to construction on all 3 of the possible routes I could take to get home (45 minutes to go 4 miles!)  I sure hope all this trouble helps my seasonal allergies be so much more manageable.

A little too snuggly

A first grader gave me a very big hug this afternoon... one that included nuzzling her head on my boob.

Red Lentil Curry

I made this for dinner tonight. Korra loved it so much she had thirds.

Hot to Cold

On Saturday it was nearly 80 degrees.  When I biked to work this morning it was 28 degrees with a windchill making it feel like 19.

Stinky, sweaty kids

Korra and her cousins played for hours outside today. It was almost 80 degrees and unbelievably humid but they rode bikes, built sandcastles, played Four Square, and generally had a fantastic time. They are some stinky kids who should sleep really soundly tonight.

Pensacola

We're spending a long weekend in Pensacola visiting Nate's parents.

Trying to do some yoga but someone wants pets.

Zoo

We took Korra and her best friend to the zoo today. The weather was amazing and the big cats were adorably sleepy.

Lots of Cooking

After my nap and a lovely long walk, I made a kale salad, ginger lemonade, banana bread, and pizza. I made King Arthur's recipe of the year- a laminated pizza dough that was a lot of worth and ended up with just "pretty good" results. On the plus side, I got to try out a new technique.

Very Adult Morning

I went to the dermatologist to get my moles checked.  They removed 2 of them because they looked irritated (right on my waist) and took a biopsy of a spot on my face (out of an abundance of caution).  Then I went directly to my primary care doctor for follow up bloodwork on my hypothyroidism.  When I got home, I sat down at the computer and filed our taxes.  Good news- we're getting a nice refund!
Now I need a nap.

Brickstore

Last night we met Todd and Sarah for dinner at Brickstore Pub and it was lovely.

So Very Busy

Good news: we're on break all of next week!
Less good news:  when we get back, we'll only have a week before the Book Fair, Family Reading Night, and an author visit.  And while all of those things are very exciting, they are also so. much. work.  Lots of logistics to think through and things to prepare.  My brain is tired.

Girls’ Night

Korra and I bought and ate a chocolate ganache cake, did her nails (some press-ons to help with picking/biting), and watched several episodes of The Good Place.

Driver's License Renewal

I just renewed my driver's license in less than 15 minutes online.  Beats spending hours at the DMV.

Criminal Charges Against Georgia Librarians

This bill that passed in the Georgia Senate and is headed to the Georgia House of Representatives.  It means school and public librarians could face criminal charges if they allow a child to check out a "harmful" book.  "Harmful" is left to be determined by the library or school board.

If you're in Georgia, please contact your representative to ask them to vote no on SB 74.  https://www.legis.ga.gov/find-my-legislator

Lemon Bars

I made these lemon crumble bars tonight and they were so delicious.

Honor Band, Round 2

Korra has her district honor band performance today. It really is impressive that these middle schoolers learned 4 songs in just one day and then played so beautifully. We are so proud.

Half Day

One of our Christmas gifts from the school was a bonus half-day off.  I used mine today and scheduled a 90 minute massage for myself.  Rather than a relaxing massage, I was going for a therapeutic massage to specifically help with my chronically tense back muscles.  As soon as the masseuse put her hands on my back she said, "Holy shit! Your back is so tense." Yep. It was a painful hour and a half, but it felt like a productive pain. She also tried some cupping and between that and the deep tissue massage, my back is pretty bruised up.
I came home, took a shower, and then had a lovely nap. Fingers crossed that over the next few days I'll my back will feel better than it has in a long time.

Contagious Kids

My nose is running today.   I guess I should be thankful it's just a cold because I also had a kindergartener put his hand down the back of his pants, scratch around, sniff his fingers, and declare, "My butt is so itchy!"

ICE Out Protest

Even though the high today was only 32 degrees, there was a huge crowd at the anti-ICE protest in Atlanta today.
