Let's go fly a kite

Potty Training While Camping

Korra has asked to go to the bathroom 4 times in the last 3 hours with only one success. I think we will spend the entire camping trip walking back and forth to the bathhouse.

Such a 2 year old

When Korra talks in her sleep she yells, "I don't want to!"

Packing and Unpacking

Spent most of the day packing for our camping trip and helping our new neighbors unpack. We're ready to head to Jekyll tomorrow morning!

Date Night!

Set up a date night rotation with 3 other couples from our church and we were able to enjoy dinner out and a Red Box movie while Korra had a play date.

Early Birthday Surprises

My assistants decorated my office with streamers and balloons and brought cake and ice cream for a little pre-birthday celebration!  Great way to finish up this rough week.

Korra's Quilt!

I picked up Korra's quilt from the quilter tonight. It's beautiful!  I love it so much and it was totally worth the cost to get the quilting done. Now I just have to finish the binding!

Pen

I got a pen in the mail. It has my name, my old school, and my HOME address on it. How did that happen?  It's a nice, free pen (they were trying to get me to buy some), but it's just a weird, incorrect, and outdated combination of information.

Spacial Awareness

Nate has been trying to teach Korra about what he calls "spacial awareness."  She very often walks on things, bumps into things, and knocks things over mostly because she's not paying attention to where her body is in relation to other things.  I tried to tell him that's a developmental stage she's not quite at yet, but when I almost SHUT MY HIP IN THE CAR DOOR, I realized it might just be genetic.  I have very little spacial awareness and I'm almost 31 years old.

Bad gets better

Had another really rough day. Cried at school for the first time in over 2 years.

But, my evening totally made up for it. We had dinner with a family that is going camping with us and who is moving in across the street. They are awesome and we had such a great time. Looking forward to our trip (in 4 days!) and to having them as neighbors.

Spelling

Reading bedtime stories took quite a bit longer tonight because Korra insisted on spelling every word on the page. Such a clever bedtime-avoidance strategy!

Bad Mood

Checked my school email (which I never do on the weekends) and find that even though tomorrow is the first day of the book fair, I've been told I will be administering make-up tests all day in another part of the school. I am so mad.  This sucks.

Lake Lanier

Spending the day on a houseboat on Lake Lanier for a friend's birthday!

International Happiness Day

In honor of International Happiness Day, here is a list of things that make me happy today:
Homemade calzones for dinner
Brownies and ice cream for dessert
Reading bedtime stories to Korra in the rocking chair
Watching The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt while snuggling with Nate
My bed
Neil Patrick Harris's autobiography

Spring Book Fair

The book fair is set up.  Spring Break is officially one week away!

More College Guests

Dinner and an evening of entertaining Korra with 2 college students from Illinois who we are hosting for a few days. And since what's one more college student, my brother's friend Kevin joined us too.

Friends of the Library Board

The Friends of the Library (a group that works with the public library staff to fund and promote the library as well as plan events) asked me to be on their board!  I feel so honored and do nerdy at the same time!

Book Repairs

Today I have repaired 18 paperback copies of Island of the Blue Dolphins.  I had to cannibalize 2 copies to replace missing pages, but it's all for the greater good.  Also, I've downloaded 3 webinars on book repair.  I need to get better at this.

Inspiration

Book Club

I love the middle school book club days.  Having lunch with kids who love to read is the best.  The brownies we eat aren't bad either.

BBQ Quesadillas

Made these delicious BBQ quesadillas last night.  I'm glad there's left over BBQ because I think I'll have another one soon!

Convertible

On days like today, I wish I owned a convertible.

Picnic

Nate wasn't feeling up to taking care of the girls so I took another sick day to take care of them and him. We had a picnic lunch while Nate rested.

Vasectomy

My husband is a real champ. Resting after having a vasectomy on Friday the 13th by Dr Michael Myers (not joking). Honestly, I almost cried from gratitude and love this morning when I took him to the doctor. He totally deserves to be waited on hand and foot for a few days.

Cookie Bars

Made these for our pot-luck lunch.  Everyone loved them!

Feeling a Bit Rebelious

Just gave away a bunch of my discarded books to the Montessori school.

Potty Chart

Looking for a Potty Training Chart for Korra and found this one.  Ha!

Crape Myrtles

Who called the city manager 3 times in an hour, left 2 messages, and got our tree planting project approved?  This girl!

I've been working for the last few months to get some trees planted in the easement between the sidewalk and the road.  This has proven to be very difficult even though I already have the money AND the workforce to plant them because the city owns that land.  They gave me some pretty stiff stipulations (tree height, contracts with each neighbor who is getting a tree, getting a dig permit) but I got them all.  And then I still had to wait, and wait, and wait for the city manager's approval.  I got tired of waiting so I called, and called, and called.  I guess it paid off.  Now just to clear the last few hurdles.  Fingers crossed these damn trees will get planted on April 11th as planned!

Best Neighborhood

Time for my monthly post about how my neighborhood is the best. Went on a walk with 2 friends (and their 4 kids) then stopped at another friend's house to play in the sandbox and chase their chickens.

New Jersey!!!

Just bought our tickets to visit my sister and her family!

Hans

Korra says she's Anna, Nate is Else, and I'm Hans. Why do I have to be Hans?

Computer Work

I hate how teachers (and even my administrators) assume that if I'm sitting at my computer and there aren't many kids in the library that I'm having a relaxing, easy day.  I know they don't really understand all the stuff I have to do to keep this ship afloat (AND moving forward) but I don't want them to think I'm surfing Pintrest.  I save that for my lunch break.

Double Time Change

Lost 2 hours today. One to daylight savings time and one to time zones. I'm going to be really tired tomorrow.

Bridge Crossing

Crossed the bridge. There were lots of people. Taking the slow drive back home (stopping for pizza for the second time this weekend).

Selma Bound

On our way to Selma!

Too Cool

Baby Cradle

Korra likes playing with her Aunt Laura's doll cradle.

Bright Side

In 3 hours, I'll be on my way home.  Shortly after, we'll meet a friend at Mellow Mushroom for pizza and we'll be at my in-law's house before bedtime.

Work Sucks

Lots of teachers out for trainings and illness means my assistants have been pulled every day this week.  I am barely keeping this ship afloat.

Baking Discovery

One really large double-yolked duck egg does not equal 2 regular eggs when baking cookies. They taste great but are flat and fall apart.

Raking Leaves

Got some exercise, enjoyed the warm weather, and made the backyard much prettier. Going to be sore tomorrow but totally worth it.

Stuck In My Head

I am an adult.  Why can't I get songs about going to the potty and sharing with friends out of my head?!  Curse you Daniel Tiger and your catchy soundtrack!

Now Go Away

Read books, sang songs, and then after kissing Korra goodnight she said, "now go away. Go in the living room."

Highlight

Best part of the school day was getting to have lunch with a friend who was subbing at my school today (especially since the pulled my assistant so it was nice to not eat alone).

Old Lady Problems

Stayed up too late crocheting. Good news is I finished the blanket for my niece!

Guests

We have 2 girls from Eastern Mennonite University staying with us for the week (they are in the neighborhood for a spring break trip). Super sweet girls who won bonus points fot complimenting my baking and for playing Candy Land with Korra.

2.5

This girl is two and a half today.
