De-stess

Today was really stressful. Thankfully, Korra and I had our annual back-to-back tradition scheduled- pedicures!

Home Visits

This afternoon I had my first home visits today- both as a teacher and as a parent. Both went well and I definitely see how they can be useful. It was hard to stop being a coworker to Korra's teachers when they came but that may be because I'm feeling so overwhelmed with school stuff.

Not Enough

Fell asleep at 11. Woke up at 5 (from a dream where I was walking through the airport and someone punched me in the back).  6 hours is not enough but here I go anyway.

Suddenly Stressed

We went to church, I took a nap, Korra and I went to the pool where we met another 5 year old (which is SO exciting since there are so few kids in this complex).  Everything was fine.  Then I decided to check my school email and now I've been working for well over an hour.  Now I need to figure out how to calm myself down before bed- how to put the students and the to-do lists and the questions for my principal out of my head long enough to fall asleep.  Hopefully a combination of reading, prayer, meditation, and melatonin will do the trick.

First Birthday

Drove 2.5 hours to Prattville, Alabama this morning to our niece's first birthday party and some time with family and a friend. It was nice but I'm really not looking forward to the drive home.

Veggie Stromboli

After an intense (and at times stressful) day of planning, we had a really delicious homemade veggie-filled stromboli for dinner, which we shared with friends. A great end to this busy week.
My classroom is nearly all set-up. My first 3 day plans have been turned in. The new grade-level library has been named and marginally organized. We've hammered out routines and expectations for our grade level. We have our schedule (though not all our rosters). There's still plenty to do (the copies!) but I'm still feeling good.

No Sweets

I haven't had any desserts/sweets since Saturday night.  I know that to some people this isn't a big deal, but to a sugar addict like me, I'm feeling pretty proud of myself.  I've promised myself ice cream tomorrow, then no sweets again until next Friday.  I can do this.

Preplanning, days 2 and 3

Lots of meetings.  Lots of To Do lists.  And then today right before lunch a water pipe to the school busts and we have to stop our training (because they can't require us to work in a building with no running water).
The good news is we've had some "free time" to work on logistic things with my team (who is absolutely amazing). There is SO much to do, but I'm really excited about this upcoming school year!

PrePlanning

Today is the first day of pre-planning. It's being held at a brewery and includes a rap battle. I love this school.

Retirement Party

On our last night of family vacation we threw a little surprise party for my parents- complete with new t-shirts.

Family Photos

We hired a photographer to take a few family photos while we're on vacation.  They turned out SO good!  Loving family time.

Dahlonega

One last hurrah before summer is over. We're at a cabin with my parents and siblings in Dahlonega for a long weekend!

School Stuff

I went to Compassion Training this morning which was actually mostly about practicing compassion for yourself so you can have more compassion for others.  I was the ONLY teacher in the training (meaning it was just me and the instructor) so that was nice, but a little strange.  And, I got a $25 Target gift card for going, so not a bad way to spend 2 hours.  Right after, I went to school and worked with my new partner teacher for over 2 hours preparing for a presentation we're making for admin tomorrow.  It's weird, but I didn't mind spending one of my last days of summer doing school stuff.  It's like I LIKE my job or something.

This is some sexist BS

Got a letter from the state IRS.  Actually it was addressed only to Nate.  Even though we filed jointly and the issue is with MY W2.  It stated that not only do we now OWE money, but we also owe a late fee.  Even though this is the first time the state has contacted us (I called THEM last week).  So I create an account to upload our documents and find out that the registration code is only good for NATE.  Again, even though we filed jointly.  So I create an account for Nate and find he has like 10 notifications about our taxes.  How the hell does he have notifications from February when we just created the account today?! And why are those same notifications not on MY account?  Is it because he's a MAN?  Ugh.  I'm so frustrated.

New Friend

Korra had a play date today and so did I.  Met a new friend for coffee and it was awesome.

CheeseSteaks and Ice Cream

We had friends over for lunch and a swim after church and then we walked for about a mile and a half to Woody's Cheesesteaks for dinner followed by Bruster's ice cream for dessert.
I'm hoping all the walking we're doing is helping to balance all the eating.

Bike Ride

Korra tried a short ride on the bike path this morning.

LaGrange Friends

We had some wonderful friend coffee to spend the day with us. We ate yummy food (pimento cheese, broccoli salad, brownies and ice cream, pizza and wings!), spent a couple hours at the pool, talked, laughed, and even rearranged our living room furniture when our new couch and tv stand arrived. I'm thankful for our friendship and our time together today.

Saturday Morning

French toast made with homemade cinnamon bread. A walk to school for 1st grade parent orientation.

Botanical Gardens

This morning Korra had a playdate with a friend from school. They had so much fun swimming and playing pretend. Her friend even lost a tooth in the pool and Korra found it! (I had to dive for it)

In the afternoon we took a family visit to the botanical gardens. Traffic was so bad on the way back that it would have taken less time to walk (2 miles).

Success!!

Haverty's Outlet is the best!  Sectional sofa and TV stand purchased and got such a good deal!

Repeat

A walk in the morning. Unsuccessful furniture shopping. Dinner with friends. Seems to be our routine. Hoping today's furniture shopping will not follow the pattern.

Mr Rogers Date

Nate and I are the only ones seeing Won't You Be My Neighbor. We've got the whole theater to ourselves.

Summer Morning Routine

Coffee, reading, texting my senators via ResistBot.

Bike Date

I spent the afternoon preparing for a presentation with my new partner teacher. I then spent the evening biking with Nate. We ended up at Krog Street Market for dinner. The chicken sandwich was so good I ate every last bite until I found it difficult to bike home.

IRS, again

We got another letter from the IRS.  After 2 hours on the phone, I learned that it's because my imploding poop pile of a former school sent the wrong W2.  So I have to send the corrected W2 to the federal and state IRS.  I contacted my former coworkers and EVERY last one of them is having the same issue.  Ugh.

Wine slushies

Today was a better day. I made a new friend at church. I took a nap. I had friends over for wine slushies in the pool.
Korra is at "Cousin's Camp" with Nate's parents until Wednesday.

And sad

My heart feels so heavy. It hurts so much.

So mad

Just left a funeral. Another friend lost to cancer in her 30s. I'm so mad. It's so unfair.

Grandma

After my brother's party, my grandma came to stay for a bit at our house. Yesterday we went to church, went out for pizza, and played a few board games. She also played Barbies with Korra while I cooked dinner. I'm so glad we had this little bit of special time with her. Today we'll take her to the airport before heading out of town ourselves (it's fault cabin time!).
