Easter Basket

Today we have a Reese's Egg eacha and a bag of jelly beans to share.  Buying my own Easter candy is way less fun than when my mommy used to do it!  Not only did she fill the baskets with our favorite candy and a new movie but she his our baskets (really well!) even through my teen years.  Good thing she gave me so many good ideas for hiding spots for when Korra's old enough to enjoy the tradition!

Crawling Video

Nap time Resistance

Korra is fighting sleep with everything she's got.  I know she's exhausted, but she's in her crib crawling around and crying for me to come get her.  I know if I just leave her alone for 10 minutes she'll be out, but the crying now is breaking my heart.

Korra and I went to the sunrise service at the Explorations in Antiquity Center. Happy Easter! He is risen!
We can now add bananas to the growing list of things Korra doesn't like to eat. Still haven't found anything she DOES like.

Saturday, March 30, 2013

Nate made AB's sliders for dinner. Now it's time for chocolate cake and Dr Who. Great birthday.

Forward!

Korra is officially crawling!

Perfect Birthday Wearher

We walked to my favorite downtown restaurant for lunch.  The weather is perfect, the food was delicious, and the company was fantastic.

Korra loves books

Her books are by far her favorite toy.  She loves to pat them, open and close them, and slide them around the floor.

Friday, March 29, 2013

Nate bought me Tangled for my birthday. I LOVE this movie.

Korra is such a good baby. She's happy to roll around on the floor and talk to herself while Nate and I watch a movie.
Stayed way later than I wanted to at school to close out the book fair. Running late to my reunion and feeling frazzled.

Reunion!

Meeting with about 20 teachers from my old school!  What a great way to start my spring break!

TOMORROW!

Tomorrow the book fair will be over.  It will be spring break.  It will be my birthday.  Just have to get through a super busy day.

Roof Repaired!

We were able to get the roof repaired instead of replaced for less than a tenth of the price!

Mama and Korra

Found Poems

Had so much fun creating "found poetry" with students and teachers today. Too bad some jaded comments about my Poem in Your Pocket Day and some passive aggressive crap about how the former librarian never cared if they scheduled their club meetings in the library without asking ruined my good mood. Sometimes teachers are worse than middle schoolers.
Seriously, teachers? Going to browse the book fair for 30 min after work (making me stay, too) and then not even buy anything?!

Poet-Tree!

Got my Poet-Tree window displays up (big twists of brown paper with leaves that students wrote poems on) AND convinced a visiting class to do found poetry on book pages!  Poetry Month is my favorite!

Back rub

Got up several times to pat Korra's back to help her fall back asleep. Wish there was someone to do the same for me.

Snuggle Buddies

Came home to find Korra and Nate snuggled up together, asleep on the couch.

I love this baby so much

Collaboration Creativity

Had lunch with the art teacher and my former sub (who's here working the book fair) and I had a huge serge of creativity!  Got my poetry display planned (a Poet Tree!) as well as some nifty collage ideas for the walls.  First time I've been excited about some things here at work all year!

No One But Librarians Will Care

I finally got our video collection organized by Dewey Decimal order rather than by subjects.  It's way better.

More Bad News

After threatening to find a new roofer we finally got an estimate... $7000 to pretty much replace the whole roof. And it's not covered by our homeowner's insurance.

Scam

When you think something's too good to be true, it is.  My $20 TOMS were a scam.  On the phone trying to dispute the charges and replace our credit cards.  I feel like such an idiot.

Laptop Note

I come into my office to find a laptop on my desk with this note:
It's sick.  Really bad.
So glad to work with such tech-savvy people.

Sunday, March 24, 2013

Nate's flight got Delayed. He won't be home until 1 am at the earliest. :(

Video Test

Now that Korra's moving and making sounds, pictures seem so insufficient, so I'm seeing how well videos work on the blog.  Can you view this without any trouble?

Ready to Crawl!

I need Nate to come home and save me from the terrible movies I've been watching.

Nest

When Nate is gone I make a nest in our bed using his pillows. It's nice, but I'd rather have Nate. I'm glad he'll be home tonight.

Pictures, please

Nate, who swore he wouldn't miss Korra that much, has asked for several photos of her each day he's been gone.

Allergy Update

I have a runny nose. That is all.

Babysitter folded all the laundry!

Early Delivery!

Book Fair is here!  5 hours early!

Thursday, March 21, 2013

Korra's spending more and more time in the ready-to-crawl position! Rocking on her hands & knees, she's going to take off any day now!
Optimistically opted for the 5 year renewal instead of the 8.
Round 2 at the DMV. Got to get this license renewed.

Anxious

Feeling anxious about Nate traveling.  Feeling anxious about leaving Korra with a babysitter all day for the first time.
Babysitter showed up 20 min late. Not a great start to the day.

I Miss Him Already

Nate just left for Boston. He'll be gone until late Sunday.

TOMS

Just ordered 3 pairs of TOMS for $19 each!  Yay!

Table Manners Needed

While Korra ate several bites of both sweet potatoes and rice cereal (yay!), she did so while babbling constantly. Guess I need to teach her not to talk with her mouth full.
Busy but boring day. Looking forward to the little time I have before Nate leaves for Boston.

Bad News on the Roof

Looks like some improperly installed nails have rusted and have caused whole sections of the roof to need to be replaced.  And of course, that's not covered by our homeowner's insurance.

Overheard

I overheard the custodian tell my assistant, "If she keeps throwing things out, there wouldn't be anything left in the library."

Bath Time Update

Korra has decided that baths are more fun sitting up. The problem with this is though she can sit up, she gets easily distracted and forgets both that she is sitting up and that she is in water in her quest to grab the drain. And I have to tell you, kneeling next to the tub to hold her up is not comfortable in the least. We may have to invest in one of those bath seats I've seen to make baths more fun for both of us.
Dang it! We missed the application deadline for Wee Miss Troup County! We fail as pagent parents.

Sunday, March 17, 2013

Going to our good friend Chuck's ordination service tonight.

Sweet Potatoes

Watching Korra try sweet potatoes was like watching AL try asparagus.  Lots of making terrible faces and gagging noises.  And yes, we laughed at them both.

Had to clean baby poop off the carpet. Yuck.

Windows Open!

I love having all the windows open!

Spring Saturday

On this beautiful day we are getting so much done around the house. Painting the front door and porch, trimming bushes and picking up branches, and rearranging some furniture. Definitely going to go on a walk later. I love this spring weather!

Friday, March 15, 2013

Line at the DMV was out the door. Guess I'll try another day.
Books processed, VCRs recycled. Now to get my license renewed and then to enjoy some sunshine!
Had a dream Korra was doing summersaults.

Work Day

Thankful that tomorrow is a teacher work day.  Not only are we having a catered breakfast, but I get to go home for lunch, AND I'll get so much done without my assistant around to distract me!

All Over The Place

Nate's been texting me pictures of Korra's progress through the living room.  I think we're going to be in serious trouble when she realizes just how mobile she is!

8 hours!

Korra slept through the night again, but more importantly, I did too! I slept for a solid 8 hours for the first time in over a year! I feel awesome!

Compliment

Had a teacher come to the library just to tell me that she thinks I'm doing a really good job.  Didn't realize I was feeling so unappreciated until she said that.

I Jinxed It

Korra was wide awake and ready to play at 5 AM.

Tuesdays

Tuesdays are my favorite work day.  My 2 retired library friends come and help me throw stuff away and organize.  I think this is why it's my custodian's least favorite day.  She has to haul it all away.

Allergies- or lack thereof

A couple of years ago I went to Savannah on a field trip and I had to be heavily medicated with Benadryl just to survive.  Last weekend (same time of year, same city)- no allergic reaction to speak of.  Can I attribute this miracle to pregnancy?

Rejected

Got my first flat-out rejection letter for a job.  Ouch.

Sleepy Baby

After sleeping through the night, I feed Korra at 6 AM and she slept until after 10 AM!

9+ Hours

Korra's slept through the night twice in a row!

Monday, March 11, 2013

Bleh

I feel so scattered today.  The time change?  Being gone for 3 days?  I don't know the cause, but I know the effect is that I am all out of sorts.

No Pictures

Somehow didn't manage to get a single picture of myself or Korra with my mom, sister, or brother on Saturday.  Photo fail.

Sunday, March 10, 2013

Korra's scooting backwards!
The drive home feels a million times longer than the drive out.
Korra hates long car rides as much as Nate & I do. Still an hour more...
Girl Scout house tour and now lunch & ice cream at Leopold's!

Off

While it was great to spend time with family, yesterday was a little hard. Our food choices left our stomachs feeling icky, Korra was fussy (teething?), and lots of time in the car made us all sleepy. Add to that the fact that it was a long day and all 3 of us were feeling a bit off. We're not hopeful tomorrow will be much better with daylight savings and a 5 hour car ride but maybe ice cream at Leopold's before we leave will make it easier.

Saturday, March 9, 2013

Had to postpone girl scout museum until tomorrow- don't want to feel rushed before the shower. Lunch on River St!

Juliet Gordon Lowe House

Going to meet my mom and brother at the Girl Scouts founder's house.  Been to Savannah 4 times but this will be the first time I get to visit there!  After that, it's off to my sister's baby shower!

Friday, March 8, 2013

5 hours on the road and Korra only slept for 20 minutes.
Almost to Savannah! Checking in at our hotel, then heading to the historic district to walk around and get dinner.
Almost 2 hours at the pediatrician. Korra is 13 lbs 13 oz & 25 in long. 30% for length & 9% for weight. Hoping she'll sleep for most of the car ride.

6 Month Check-Up

Korra's got her 6 month checkup this morning.  Looking forward to finding out how much she's grown.  Not looking forward to the shots.

Thursday, March 7, 2013

Not Sleepy

Korra is trying her hardest to convince me she's not sleepy.  She'll just about fall asleep (in my arms, in the car, in her crib) and then she'll pop that little head back up, smile at me, and start babbling.  Thankfully, I have off tomorrow so this is just amusing rather than frustrating.

Wednesday, March 6, 2013

I did not cry. I did not take anything I wasn't supposed to take. Both were very tempting.

It's Time

Leaving to go to my old school.  Excited about the stuff I'm going to get.  Nervous about how I'll feel once I'm there.

Morning Yoga

I have to stand in the hall for 25 minutes each morning to greet the students.  What do you think the students, teachers, and administrators would say if I decided to use that time to do some standing yoga poses as well?

Tuesday, March 5, 2013

I see a tooth in Korra's mouth!

Reunion Delay

My reunion with my old media center has been rescheduled for tomorrow.

Recycling

Taking a dozen VCRs and cassette players to the recycling center.  Too bad we can't recycle the 9 globes with the USSR on them.

Today's the Day

Going to my old school this afternoon.  Mixed emotions.

Monday, March 4, 2013

Roof

We keep getting water spots on our ceiling (in a different spot every time) when we have heavy rain.  Today, we had a roofer come out for the THIRD time and they still say they have no idea where the leak is or how to fix it.  So frustrating.

Sunday, March 3, 2013

Alternate Cat Perches

In the the absence of our living room furniture the cats are trying to find other places to curl up. Nate just found one in Korra's crib and the other on her changing table.

Clean Carpets

Got our carpets professionally cleaned today.  Tomorrow we'll rearrange our remaining furniture and we're getting our roof checked out.  Very few things left on my Before We Put the House Up for Sale list.

Korra at 6 months

So I thought it might be good to do a little summary of Korra for posterity's sake.
Korra can roll over both ways and can sit up on her own for a little bit. She can stand up when holding onto something. She doesn't have any teeth yet and isn't especially interested in cereal. She still usually wakes up once a night to nurse but she goes right back to sleep for a total of 9-10 hours per night. She takes 3-4 30-45 minute naps a day. She goes down for naps pretty easily with her pacifier. She smiles easily and is content most of the time. People are always saying how cute and alert she is and they compliment her big, bright eyes. Korra loves the bath, petting Mrs Reynolds, going on walks, kicking off her socks, and putting just about anything in her mouth. She loves it when we sing to her and read her books. She especially likes Brown Bear, Brown Bear. Korra is ticklish on her ribs and armpits. She doesn't like the sound of the vacuum cleaner or when anyone blows raspberries at her. She doesn't really like the car. Rides in the car do not make her sleepy.
While that wasn't very brief, I think it will be good to have this to look back on. The last 6 months have flown by. I want to make sure I remember these little things.

Cressida!

Sold our 1984 Cressida!  Yippee!

Upset Kitty

Mrs. doesn't know how to handle the fact that we sold her 2 favorite pieces of furniture.
Called it quits on the yard sale. $185 and a trunk full of stuff to take to Goodwill. now to get warm!
Sitting outside for my yard sale and it's snowing.

Yard Sale

Having our yard sale this morning even though it's about 30 degrees. Hoping people will show up and make it worth freezing my butt off.

6 Months!

This sweet girl is half a year old today!

Cables Organized

Who just threw out an entire trash can full of outdated cables?  ME!
