Renter Woes

They guy who was supposed to rent our house texted me today and said he'd been laid off. 3 weeks before he was supposed to move in, just a little more than a week before we move into our new place and we don't have a renter. I've spent the whole evening fielding Facebook messages, emailing rental applications, taking pictures of the house, trying not to cry, and scheduling showings of the house. So thankful I have off tomorrow. Please pray we find a good renter soon.

Pediatrician

Looking for a pediatrician near our new house. First had awful reviews for crazy long waits. Second had excellent reviews- all from parents who love the doctor because she's so supportive of their decision not to vaccinate. Ugh. Glad our current pediatrician was able to squeeze us in for Korra's yearly checkup and I can put off that decision just a little longer.

Commuter

We bought our first house less than a mile from my first job. I always knew commuting was not for me. Glad that in less than two weeks my commute will be half of what it us now, but I'm still concerned that the 30 minute drive each way will make me very unhappy.  I do not enjoy driving.

Packing Progress

Made a big dent in packing today. We're down to absolute essentials we'll need for the next 2 weeks. It's starting to feel real. It's hard to imagine living somewhere else after 9+ years in this house.

Just Kids

I love how my middle school students are still so child-like. None of the girls shave their legs yet. They play tag at recess. They love to tell cheesey jokes. The culture of the school is to work hard, love learning, and be respectful. I'm very thankful.

We finally have a confirmed move in date!  September 10th!  Going to book the truck tomorrow!

Birthday Doll

Finally finished Korra's birthday present!

Summer Slam

Nate and Korra have both gotten into professional wrestling lately. Korra has her favorite tag team (New Day), she knows several catch phrases and signature moves, and most recently she's wanted us to wrestle with her. Add that to her love of Ninja Warrior and our timid girl is getting a lot more rough and tumble!

Teenage Nightmare

I had a dream that we had 9 teenage foster kids in our house plus Korra and Danny. It was insane.

Little Artist

Her drawings have gotten so much more detailed recently.

5:30am Google search

Work up at 5:30 am so obviously I googled crime stats and sex offenders near our new house.  Good news. We can still move there.

Shocked

I accidentally shocked myself while unplugging my laptop at the end of the school day. I deserve an award for not saying a 4-letter word in front of my students. My arm aches all the way up to my shoulder. Exactly what I needed to add to my sore throat, aching back, and tired feet. So thankful it's the weekend!

Sick Kids

I had 4 kids (out of 19) leave my class for the nurse because of stomach aches and headaches. There's a bug going around and I don't want to get it!

First Day of Pre-K

Today is Korra's first day of preschool.

Sore Throat

I hope this sore throat is from talking all day and not because I'm coming down with a back-to-school cold.

Bed Buddy

Korra is sound asleep, curled up against me in my bed because I didn't get home from work until after 8 (due to Open House) and I miss her and I'm too tired to cope with her crying about not wanting to be alone and I feel guilty for being gone so much.

Salon

Korra got her first salon haircut!

Hike

Today I took 75 middle school students on a 3 mile hike. So grateful for this school!

Stay Awake

My manta after school each say, "just stay awake until 8:45... just until 8:45."

Fun Day

Teaching is fun. Planning when you don't have enough time is not. Here's hoping I get better at the planning part.

216 miles

Nate and I are commuting a combined total of 216 miles each day. It's as exhausting as it sounds. Probably still another 2-3 weeks until we can move.

Mercy Watson

In just 4 days, Korra and I have read 4 Mercy Watson chapter books. They are really cute and fun. We both highly recommend them.

Summer Camp

Especially since today was a bit disorganized and not very academic, today felt like working at s summer camp. I mentioned this to a veteran teacher and he said, "I never thought about it that way be, but it really does feel like camp all year." I just landed a great paying, full-time camp job!

First Day

Here we go. First day of school.

Mani/Pedi

I told Korra that if she stopped biting her fingernails I would take get to get a manicure. Today we went. She loved it.

Open House

I forgot to write about Open House. It was Thursday from 3:30-8:30. I really enjoyed meeting the students and parents (who seem super involved and helpful!) butie students and parents (who seem super involved and helpful!) but it was also exhausting. That's pretty much the theme of the past 2 weeks (and maybe this whole year?). Exhausting and overwhelming and exciting.

My Classroom and School

Weird Dream

I dreamed Danny came home and had a girl with him.  I said, "Who is your friend?  Is she staying for dinner?"  He grinned and said, "This is Caitlyn.  She's not my friend, she's my wife.  We just got married."

6:45 is PJ time

I know I won't be able to go to bed for hours (much less fall asleep), but I'm already in my pajamas.

Tick Twister

I just had to order a special tick remover for my classroom. Bug spray on the us supply list. This is really my life.

Yearbooks

Tonight we're looking through our old yearbooks. It's amazing how after 15+ years we don't remember 90% of the people who wrote in it. Sending photo texts to the few people we do still keep I'm touch and enjoying a good laugh.

Ninja Warrior Gym

Korra calls the playground her ninja warrior gym.

Best Dinner

The best dinner is the one my husband planned, grocery shopped for, and cooked for me.
Steak tacos with onions and mushrooms. Yum!

Weird Name

Korra named my old Barbie "Rose Get-Dressed." I am confused.
