Book Orders

I'm stressing over orders.  3 book orders, 2 AR test orders, and then an order for supplies for Teen Read Week.  Too many POs!!!

Revenge

The laminator is my arch nemesis.  It destroyed a big poster today that took quite a lot of time and effort.  I will have my revenge.

What did you do at school today?

I took apart an overhead projector and then put it back together!

5th Sunday Sing

We had a pot-luck dinner followed by a request-your-favorite-hymn service tonight at church. It was really fun to sing and socialize.

Church Visitors

We had a bunch of visitors at church this morning. It's so nice to have the pews full.

ALLERGIES!

Just went back to the tattoo parlor where the new artist knew exactly what is causing the bumps and shine- ALLERGIES. He's seen it before in the type of ink that was used on me. My body is rejecting some elements in the pigment. It may take up to a year for it to get normal, but it's nothing to worry about. In the end, I guess it makes sense. I'm allergic to everything else- why not tattoo ink?

Good Eats!

Nate and I (along with a few friends) are going to see Good Eats Live today!!!

Cake Wrecks

I've just spent the last 30 minutes on this blog. Hilarious. Though I am a little jealous. I wish my blog would become incredibly famous and they would want to make it into a book. It's the perfect format for those books you read on the toilet.

Sushi

I took Nate out for sushi! It ended up being a little embarrassing because we had no idea how much food they would give us and ended up only eating about a third of what we ordered. It was good, though, and I think it was a very nice date.

Cosmetic

The dermatologist says my insurance won't cover a visit to look at my tattoo. Apparently it's "cosmetic" and will cost over $100. :(

Librarian Love

Here is why I love my job:  A 3rd grader just stopped me in the hall to tell me, "Mrs. B- I LOVE my book!"

DATE!

I am taking Nate on a date tonight.  He doesn't know where we're going out to eat.  I like surprises!

Nice Evening

Todd came over for dinner last night. I made something new (Japanese vegetable rice) which they liked, but I didn't. Then we went to Walmart, came back home, and watched a TV show. It was a very nice evening.

Gossip

I'm getting caught up in gossip again.  I need to rise above.

Stressful Morning

This has been a very stressful morning.  I hope the afternoon will go much more smoothly.

Civil Disobedience

Making a book display on Civil Disobedience.  It's time to start standing up for what is right.

Diploma

My diploma came in the mail! I'm a MASTER!

Collection Analysis

I just submitted the library's collection for analysis.  17 pages of percentages, averages, and graphs!  It's like my love of math and books married and had a collection analysis baby!

Not Again

Just when it seems things might be ok, she goes and does something else horrible, tossing everything up in the air again.

Volunteers!

3 wonderful moms just spent 2 1/2 hours helping me glue little medallions on poster board.  Parent volunteers are the best!

Tattoo Mystery

It's been 8 weeks since I got my tattoo. It still looks funky. So I went to the parlor. They have no idea what's wrong with it. I'm supposed to go back on Thursday to get another artist's opinion.

Meeting Time

It's about time for my 2 hour meeting on professional learning.

Hammock Weather

It is absolutely gorgeous outside!  It's reading in the hammock weather.  I wish I didn't have meetings until late this afternoon!

Sequel

Headache Part II: Return of the Skullcrusher.

Just took advil and sudafed.  I hope this sequel doesn't last long.

Random

I Can Has Cheezburger was listed in my School Library Monthly in an article about excellent websites for educators- to help them "deal with any stress the new school year brings."  Awesome.

Sick

I was not feeling well last night.  Horrible headache and nauseous.  I felt better this morning so I still came to work, but we had 5 teachers who didn't.  And we've already had almost 30 kids check out sick today, on top of the 30 or so who didn't even come to school.

Planner

Dang it.  I left my planner at home.  Now I have no idea what I'm doing today.

Dog Poop

There was dog poop on the carpet of the library this morning.  I have no idea how it got here since the library was locked all weekend.  Obviously, this is the start of a great day.

Livingston, AL

4 hours until we leave for Dan and G's.  7 hours til we get there.  Livingston, AL- here we come!

When?

When will I learn when to speak and when to hold my tongue?

Yoga

Our neighbor invited me to a yoga class tonight that he's teaching. I've only done a yoga DVD before, so I'm eagerly anticipating this new experience.

Perfect Bike Weather

It's rained every afternoon this week, but it's always sunny again by 3:00.  God clearly wants me to be able to bike to and from work.

Presents for Me!

I ordered a few little presents for myself with my graduation money and they came today!

(That last one is a pizza peel- not a paddle to beat the kids with)

Another Meeting

I'm beginning to think I'll never again get to leave school before 4 again.  On a positive note, I'm feeling much more peaceful and optimistic today than yesterday.

Super Glue

I just squirted almost half a tube if super glue all over my left hand and desk.  I am ridiculous.

Today's Mantra

"Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful."  Luke 6:36

Note to Self

"Oh the depth of the riches of the wisdom and knowledge of God.
How unsearchable his judgements and his paths beyond tracing out.
Who has known the mind of the Lord?  Or who has been his couselor?
Who has ever given to God that God should repay him?
For from him and through him and to him are all things.
To him be the glory forever! Amen"
Romans 11:33-36

Never Ending

Faculty Meeting.  Will this day ever end?

Nightmare

My laminator nightmare just came true.  I walked away from something while laminating and FORGOT about it for at least 15 minutes.  It ran for that long.  Just wasting film.  I'm so mad at myself.

Confrontation

I just confronted the new principal.  I think I'm going to throw up.

Positive

I'm trying really hard to be positive, joyful, and hopeful. Now I have you, oh blogging world, to hold me accountable.

Laminator

I dreamed I left the laminator running too long.  It overheated, it ran out of film, it was bad.  I just finished some laminating here at school and the film peeled off one of the pieces.  I hate that laminator.

Left Overs

I am really looking forward to eating left-over wedding cake this evening.

District 9

After spending some time with Todd (he came to church and to lunch with us) we went to see District 9. Though I don't really care for people's heads getting blown up every few minutes, I did think the special effect were pretty impressive.

Friends of Friends

I have to say, my friends have good taste in friends. Over the past 2 wedding weekends, I have met some great people, I can see why my friends are friends with them. I want to be their friends, too!

Hospitality

Bridal party getting ready at my house! I love having people over and I love even more that they feel comfortable here.

Freshman

My little brother is moving into LaGrange College today!

Rehersal Dinner

Second Friday evening in a row spent at a wonderful rehearsal dinner full of good food and great friends.

RAGE

The phrase "No Child Left Behind" triggers a rage filled Pavlovian response to scream obscenities and quit my job. It should never be used in a faculty meeting. Especially on a Friday.

You've Got To Be Kidding

A faculty meeting?  On a Friday?  And I have to set up and take down a projection system?  And you want me to film it too?  Ugh.  I just want a nap.

Thankful

The rest of the school stresses over scheduling, gradebooks, and attendace and I am thankful to be independent in my library, insulated by my walls of books.

Doughnut Friday

There are usually doughnuts in the teacher workroom on Fridays.  Today, I picked the chocolate one with sprinkles, though I can't eat it yet.  My tummy is upset.

Worrying

They said they would mail my diploma on Thursday.  It's been over a week and it's still not here, so I'm stressing that they messed up and it's not coming and therefore that my raise isn't coming.  I'm trying not to worry, but it's not working very well.

Party!

Going to Dani's bachelorette party tonight. Tacos and lingerie!

Books

There are almost 8,000 books in my library.  All those words, ideas, characters, adventures... and every day, I get to hand them out to children.  My job is awesome.

Dead Weight

I was totally useless at trivia this evening. I didn't know a single answer.

Trust Me

The new principal does not appear to trust us.  It's frustrating, but I am determined to show her.  I can do my job.  We all are good teachers.  She can back off.  We can handle things.  She can trust us.  And I hope she will with time.

Payback

I have an electric typewriter here at school.  I love it.  Today it ran out of ink.  I have no idea how to fix it.  Thankfully, many of the older teachers did.  I was reminded of all the times I rolled my eyes because their printers were unplugged as they roll their eyes and replace the ink ribbon with ease.

They've Noticed

While teaching almost half the student body today (which always involves wild hand movements), I noticed a few whispers and finger pointing.  It seems they have noticed my tattoo, though only a few said anything outright.

Tired but Happy

As exhausting as this day has been, I've loved it.  I know I am blessed to do something I love and find rewarding every day- and get paid for it!

Speech

I have given the same speech 7 times today and I still have 4 more to go.

Here We Go!

Busy Day begins NOW!

Wine

I don't drink. But part of the bachelorette party from this past weekend was a wine tasting. I was VERY skeptical, but I actually enjoyed myself. I even bought a bottle of this sweet muscadine wine which I plan on enjoying this evening.

One Down

One day down, 188 to go. Tomorrow will be busier. I have 10 class orientations!

1st Day of School

I missed the real first day of school (Friday) so today is my first day of school.  I have a lot to do.  And I'm hungry.  6:30 AM is too early for breakfast.

Bisa and Ryan Sitting in a Tree...

So the Wedding-O-Rama was a huge success. It was amazingly wonderful to catch up with people I haven't seen in years! There were a few stressful moments (like when the ranch we were staying at ran out of water on the wedding day!) but it was beautiful and wonderful and exhausting.

Wedding Extravaganza

Today I'm leaving for North Carolina with one of my best friends from high school. She's getting married in Asheville this weekend and festivities begin today! Yay!

The Dress!

Nate and I are on the road for 30 minutes driving to my parents' house (I'm leaving early tomorrow morning for a wedding in North Carolina) and I realize- I forgot my bridesmaid dress! I'm just glad I realized it sooner rather than later!

Kids

I really love these kids.  I'm enjoying floating around the building, talking with the kids about their summer reading and being excited about the coming year.

Registration

Today is Registration Day! I'm so glad I'm not a classroom teacher today!

Busy Night

Last night I got home from work at about 4:30 and started cooking dinner (roasted veggies and foccacia bread!) After dinner I went on a walk to TK's with Megs, hurried over to Trivia at the pub (where we got 2nd place!), locked the keys in the car, had to drive back with Nate's keys, and read a chapter of Harry Potter before falling into odd dreams about Cho Chang.

Today and Tomorrow

Today I worked from 7:30 AM to 4:15 PM.
Tomorrow I'll work 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM.
I'm so glad I'm taking off Thursday and Friday.

Tummy Ache

I've got myself so stressed out and overwhelmed that I have a tummy ache.  I need to get a grip.

Ahhhh!

That faculty meeting was long and stressful and those lunchroom benches are uncomfortable.  I have an afternoon of checking printers and laminating to look forward to.  Boo.  Sorry for complaining.

Lunchroom?

We're having all our faculty meetings from now on in the lunch room instead of my media center.  I like having everyone in my space.  Trying not to pout.

Teacher Work Day

Today is the first official teacher work day. I got up at 6:30 AM and remembered that I prefer waking up when it's already light out.

Jealousy

Sometimes I get really jealous of Nate. On the surface, it's because he stays home and plays video games while I work. The real thing I'm jealous of is that Nate knows how to let things go and relax- something I have a lot of trouble doing.

Gradual

I've gradually been working up to work. For the last 2 weeks, I've just gone in the morning. This week, I go all day, but I can come home for lunch. Next week is the real thing- you know, with kids and all. This gradual increase in work time is the way to do it. I feel ready.

Sundress!

In order to improve not just my sewing skills but my visual/spacial skills as well, I decided to make a sundress this summer. It's the first thing I've ever sewn from a pattern without my mommy's help, so I'm pretty proud.

Zipper

I can't put it off any longer. I'm going to put the zipper in my sundress today.

The Point

Nate just pointed out to me that the whole point of my blog is so that I can talk about myself all the time. Isn't that the point of anyone's blog?

Dollar Deals

At a garage sale, I got a hardback book for the library for just $1. I also got a whole fresh pineapple at the grocery store for the same price!
