Cabin Time #2

Heading to the cabin for a week with Nate's family!!

Baptism

This morning we had a baptism at church and it reminded me that Korra was baptized on the Sunday before 4th of July 2 years ago.
Today she wrote a letter to our senators about the immigration detention centers.
I am so thankful to be raising Korra in this wonderful community.

Breakfast and Book Club

This morning I met my former partner teacher Clint for breakfast to catch up. Then I biked over to the library to try out their monthly fiction book club. It was delightful and I'm looking forward to the next one.

Make-up

Last night we had dinner with some church friends. Korra happily played with 2 girls her age while the adults talked. When I looked at my watch and realized it was nearly 10pm, I went to tell Korra it was time to leave. Her entire face was covered in make-up. She began to cry (because she was tired and didn't want to leave) and the make-uo began to run. She looked like a mini Joker.

Anne

After watching "Anne with an E" on Netflix, I decided I needed to read Anne of Green Gables, which I've shamefully never read. Just finished the first book. It was amazing. I see the rest of the series in my near future.

Yer a wizard, Harry

I started reading Harry Potter to Korra at bedtime. At the end of chapter 3 tonight, she said she was too excited to find out what happens next to Harry to sleep. I love seeing her excitement as she experiences it for the first time.

I Take It Back

Ok, so after complaining about the dealership, they took less than 2 hours so we didn't have to rent a car. And they were nice. And there was free popcorn and coffee and video games and wifi. I guess I don't hate the dealership anymore.

Toyota Dealership

I loathe going to the Toyota dealership. We've had to go 3 times in the last 3 years for recall issues between our 2 cars. It always takes forever- and it's 20-50 minutes away depending on traffic. Today we're opting for a rental car so we don't have to spend 5+ hours in their stupid waiting room. If only there were other options for these repairs...

Cat Cafe

Checked off another Atlanta To Do: visited a cat cafe this afternoon! For an entrance fee, (cost of food and beverages is separate), you get to sit in a kitty-filled cafe. Predictably, Korra loooooooooved it. Especially the kitty stroller.

Centennial Park

Today we checked off something that's been on my Atlanta To Do List since we moved here. With some friends from Korra's Girl Scout troop, we walked to Centennial Olympic Park and played at the playground and fountain. This park was built the same year my family moved to the Atlanta area (1996) and I remember visiting as a teenager when people came in from out of town. Korra had a great time!

Siesta

There are few things I love more about summer than my daily after lunch nap.

Pool Time

Yesterday we spent nearly 5 hours at the pool. It was glorious.
It's supposed to be another hot day tomorrow, so maybe we'll have a repeat.

Splash Pad

This morning we walked to the playground/spash pad where we played Ave had a picnic lunch. It didn't matter that it rained since we had on our swimsuits :)

After walking home, the kids played for a bit and then made their own salad and mini pizzas for dinner. I went out and picked up Cook Out milkshakes for dessert.

Cousins!

We have family visiting with us for the week! (Nate and his brother went to the cabin together while my sister-in-law and the kids are hanging out in the city with Korra and me). Today we went to the pool and then biked to King of Pops!

Getting Bored

This summer, I've already finished reading 3 books and completed a sewing project. Today I went to Zumba, watched a movie, read, cleaned the bathroom, and wrote a letter.  Looking forward to family visiting next week because I'm getting a little bored.

Kitty-sitting

We're babysitting a friend's 6 week old kitten (June) for the weekend. Korra is over the moon. Mrs Reynolds, not so much.

Animal videos

Korra and I watched half an hour of videos is animals doing stupid things (her favorite were the ones where animals knocked kids down). She laughed harder than I've heard her laugh in a long time.

Korra's Home!

Drove a total of 4 hours today to meet my parents and pick up Korra. I love that kid.

Trivia

Korra is spending a few days with my parents so Nate and I were able to go out to trivia together with a couple of friends tonight. It's the first time I've been in years. I still suck just as bad as always.

Cabin Time #1

We just spent the past few days at Nate's parents' cabin in Blue Ridge with my family.  My mom, dad, sister, brother-in-law, 2 nieces, nephew, my 2 brothers, and my 2 sister-in-laws!  It rained the whole time, which is actually my favorite weather at the cabin.  We spent a lot of time on the porch- eating, talking, reading, trying to make sure the baby didn't dive over the edge.  It was lovely and I completely forgot to take any pictures.

14th

Today is our 14th wedding anniversary!  We celebrated with a walk on the Beltline and a few stops for drinks, food, and dessert. Korra came with us and the only picture of the day is of her eating ramen.
We also signed our lease for another year at this great apartment where we can walk to so many good restaurants!

Headache and Exercise

Despite a smashing headache, I ran 2.5 miles this morning and I'm getting ready to take my first Zumba class in almost a year.

South Beach pics

South Beach

This morning we biked the 2ish miles to the South Beach (we went to the North Beach on Thursday when we got here). The waves were much calmer but it was also a lot more crowded. We got there about 10:30 and spent the best $20 ever to get a beach umbrella. Nate and I sat in the shade and talked and read while Korra played in the waves and sand. We stayed about 3 hours and then went for lunch. Korra and Nate ate a pound and a half of crab.
Then we got snow cones. And then we did the most beachy thing ever. Nate bought this "island boy" shirt
and then we bought Korra an airbrushed t-shirt (picture later). We both had kind of always wanted one as kids and so... not sure if it was worth $31 but whatever. She's an only child.

In slightly related vacation news, Korra has enjoyed playing with all the other kids at the campground (nearly all the tent camping sites are families with multiple children). They ride bikes and play in the pool. It's been really nice.

Dolphin Tour

In the morning we went on a tour of the Tybee Island Lighthouse. It was cool but crazy hot. We booked a dolphin tour for the hottest part of the day yesterday. Then we had to reschedule it due to lightening. We ended up on the sunset tour which was beautiful. We saw dozens of dolphins, often in pods of 6 or more, including a baby. It was lovely. The rest of the day was pretty hot but we've enjoyed the pool at the campground. We also grilled nachos for dinner!
