My Eclectic Job

Today I reserved two minivans for our Minnesota office, got trained on our new copier, reassigned all our Microsoft licenses, received a delivery of a pallet of promotional materials from California and unpacked them all into the closet, and picked up 7 party platters from Publix for our monthly birthday celebration.

Microsoft... Again

Looks like my whole day will once again be taken up by Microsoft customer service phone calls.  I thought I'd fixed all this earlier this month but no.  Now our subscription has inexplicably been disabled and no one can tell me why or how to fix it.  Ugh.  At least I'm doing this terrible task in sweatpants.

Justification

My throat still hurts so I'm working from home. I don't have to tell anyone at work but I'm feeling desperate to justify why I should work from home today to SOMEONE. It's just so absolutely strange and disorientating that no one is watching over me, needing me to be AT work.  It will impact only one person if I work from home today instead of going into the office (ME) and staying at home when you're not feeling well is the right thing to do for everyone. So why do I still feel like I need to justify this to someone?

Sick?

Korra stayed home from school today because she had a cough. I went into work for about 2 hours and then worked from home the rest of the day. About lunchtime, my throat started hurting. Nate said he's feeling congested this evening. I don't like being sick, especially when the weather is so nice, but at least we have jobs where we can work from home when we're not at our best.

Friday Brunch Date

Since Nate and I both work from home on Fridays, we've made it a habit of going out for breakfast/brunch.  It's a really nice way to have a date and not have to worry about getting a babysitter.  Today we tried out HomeGrown and it was delicious.
I feel like our Fridays are a thing we need to take absolute advantage of (like how we used to do with summers off together).  I know it's a job perk we may not have forever, so I want to make the most of it.  Brunch dates definitely feel like making the most of it.

Procrasti-cleaning

Today I did some major cleaning of the break room/kitchen (scrubbed out the inside of the fridge, microwave, and toaster oven), mostly in order to avoid working on some very overwhelming and tedious expense reports.

Mended Jeans

Aren't these the cutest?!?

Quiet Week

The office is really quiet this week because most of the staff is at a conference in Anaheim. So far I've built 2 desks, played around with the new printer, spent a lot of time on the phone with customer service for our expense report software (while also researching places to visit in London). Today I took a long lunch with Danielle. We explored the this very odd art installation on the GA Tech Campus.

Creative Energy

I finished Korra'a stuffed animal hammock.
I also made a new seatbelt cover, cut out the pattern for a shirt, and added cuffs to a pair of Korra'a jeans (picture of that to come after I finish patching/embroidering the knee).

Double Vaccinated

Yesterday afternoon I got my omicron booster and my flu shot. Today I'm feeling rather achey so I'm working from home. No need to push myself- especially since it's an extra quiet week at work.

Flexible Fridays

Every Friday is a half day for Korra (she gets home at 12:30). Nate and I both work from home on Fridays. That means Fridays are amazingly flexible, so today we were able to head to the cabin by 1:00. I might have had to join a zoom call in the car and Nate and I both had to do a little work when got here but we were able to beat the traffic.

Bicycle Independence

I love that Korra rides her bike to and from school every day. I love the independence and confidence it gives her.

Pizza and Ice Cream

Pizza at Junior's and ice cream at Big Softie for dinner tonight!  All eaten at outdoor patios with friends in this beautiful weather.

New Copier!

The new copier I've been working towards getting for the office for over 2 months arrived today!

Cross-Stitched Bookmark

Not only did I cross-stitch this adorable bookmark, but I drafted the design myself!

Staff Picture

Work needed a picture of me to add to the staff page on the website so I asked Danielle to take one for me. I think she did a great job!

Wisconsin Bound

I booked a weekend flight in November to go up to Wisconsin to see my grandparents!  Only $78 round trip to fly into Chicago and then my wonderful cousin is going to drive me the rest of the way.  It was over $300 to fly directly into Milwaukee so this is way better- plus bonus time with Julie!

A little chilly

It was 61 degrees when Korra and I biked to work/school this morning!

Work Praise

Each Monday during our staff meeting, the executive director calls on someone to give an update about what they've been working on recently. I got called on today and while I was sharing, several people commented about how helpful I've been and the ED said I'm doing a fantastic job.  For someone who loves words of affirmation, it was really great.

Another Tooth!

Korra wiggled out another tooth this evening. 2 in one weekend!

Lost Tooth

On the way to my parents' house yesterday, Korra lost a tooth in the car while we ate Culver's custard and listened to The Amazing Maurice and his Educated Rodents.

High Roller

Playing Fill or Bust with my mom and Korra is the luckiest roller I've ever seen

Adobe and Microsoft

I ran out of everything else on my To Do list so I have to spend my day on the phone and chat with Microsoft and Adobe... again.  Still way less stressful than teaching.

Stop Reading!

Every morning when Korra is  getting ready for school and every night when she's getting ready for bed, Nate and I have to repeatedly yell, "stop reading!" at our child. I can't count the number of times we've found her, toothbrush held limply in her hand, rereading some book for the dozen-th time. I guess in the long run it's a good problem to have, but it really makes getting to school on time a challenge.

Done Shredding

Yesterday I shredded my last box of work documents!  Now I just need to get rid of all these old filing cabinets.

Tacky Day

This morning we went to the Dragon Con parade. It was so fun!

Brewery with Kids

Went to a brewery for dinner with our friends.

Vet Bills

In 3 months we're probably spending $2000 on these cats. Ugh.

Birthday Meals

Korra got bacon and cinnamon rolls got breakfast. She brought Oreos and chips to share with her class at school (and school lunch was pizza and tots!). She requested that Nate make steaks with sautéed mushrooms and onions, roasted Brussel sprouts, and mashed potatoes for dinner, and then we had an ice cream cake for dessert.
All that good eating- she's now 4 feet, 1 inch and 53.6 pounds.

Resumes

Today I downloaded over 300 resumes.  I am amazed by the number of resumes that are just called "Resume" or "new resume."  No name.  When there are that many people applying to one job, you really want to stand out.  It's hard to do that when your resume has the same file name as 20+ other people.

Lunch with Danielle

My good friend now works only a mile away from my office so today we met up to eat lunch together!  It was great and I can't wait to do it again
