Long Weekend at the Cabin

We left for the cabin yesterday afternoon and we'll be here until Tuesday evening.
Nate and I both worked from here today (though it was a little tricky due to a bad thunderstorm that caused the Internet to go out a couple of times) but we have off on Monday and Tuesday.
Nate's parents and our nephew arrived today, which means Korra is over the moon for time with her cousin.

Alone Time

Even though she's almost 11 years old, Korra still tries to talk to me while I'm in the bathroom. It's always extremely time sensitive and simultaneously something her dad cannot answer. Can't a mom poop or shower in peace?

Scrunchie Snack

Alex (the cat) ate one of Korra's hair scrunchies. Swallowed it whole. That's going to be fun coming out.

Pizza Day at Work

Today is our monthly staff celebration. For this month, we're going out for pizza. I bought 10 bottles of wine from BuyWineOnline.com and left work at 1:30 to claim squatters rights on a big table. So now I'm studying for my HR exam with 10 bottles of wine all by myself while I wait for my coworkers.

Cavity

Korra and I had dentist appointments this morning. I have a small cavity so I need to go back next week to get that filled. More than the expense (only $75 thanks to good dental insurance) and the inconvenience and discomfort (both of which are also minimal) is the feeling of shame. Dental hygiene propaganda from my childhood definitely has my subconscious convinced that cavities could only be a direct result of my bad choices. Yuck.

Zoo & Pool

Yesterday afternoon we spent a couple hours at the pool with Nate's parents and then enjoyed pizza for dinner.
This afternoon we took a trip to the zoo and then cooled off in the pool.
I'm sure I've said it before, but I'm really glad we have a pool.

Restaurants in Walking Distance

Nate and I walked to breakfast this morning. I had a bacon, egg, and pimento cheese biscuit at Bomb Biscuit that was AMAZING.
Korra arrived home today afternoon with Nate's parents and we all walked to dinner at Noni's where I had a very tasty muffuletta sandwich.
Thankful our landlord agreed to a 2 year lease so we can keep walking to so many really good restaurants.

Violence

At about 10:30, I heard yelling outside our bedroom window. This isn't uncommon- usually it's a drunk person or a group of rowdy tourists/concert-goers. After a minute though, I thought something seemed off so I went to the window and saw a man throwing a woman to the ground, dragging and pushing her. I ran to the living room and told Nate while I called 911. Nate went out to the balcony while I was on the phone with the dispatcher. He started yelling at the man to stop. A Door-Dasher stopped, got out, and also called the police, so the man left.
I went down to sit with the woman while we waited for the police.  Nate stayed on the balcony to be on the lookout for both the police and the man (in case he returned).  The woman, the Door-Dasher, and I waited for 45 minutes for the police to come.  While we waited, we talked- about meatballs vs meat sauce, about our kids, about where we grew up. She also had me take pictures of the goose-egg bruise on her forehead, write down all her details and the details on the man who attacked her (a former partner).
The police finally arrived and took our statements.  Nate brought the woman ice, ibuprofen, and some cash (Thank you, Grandpa, for the money you send!  We put it to good use!) and we drove her to a family member's apartment nearby.  Nate was also able to give her contact information for a housing and food resource that he works with.
I'm thankful we were able to help.  I'm thankful for a partner who wants to be as loving and helpful as I do.  I'm also thankful I'm working from home tomorrow, because it's after midnight and I know I won't be able to sleep for a while yet.

Out To Eat

On Sunday night (after a 2 hour nap for me), Nate and I walked to our favorite local restaurant for dinner (Torched Hop), and then walked to another restaurant for drinks (Victory).  On Monday morning, I drove to Newnan to have breakfast with my friend Stephanie.  Nate and I tried a new place for dinner (The Mad Italian) and then popped by Kathryn and Rachel's house to catch up with them.  It was a pretty nice way to spend some time off work while Korra is away.

Father’s Day Hand-off

We drove to Montgomery this morning to meet Nate's dad. We had lunch and then loaded Korra into his car. She's headed to Pensacola today and then tomorrow she's going to LegoLand with all of Nate's family. She's going to have an amazing week.

Neighborhood Pool

One of the many things I love about our condo complex is the pool. It's a nice pool. It has a good amount of shade and trees and umbrellas and loungers. I especially love the way it brings our neighbors together. I love the community that happens at the pool. Chatting. Sharing drinks and food. From May to September we see our neighbors several times a week and I really love it.

4.5 Hours

It took sooooooooooo long for the car to get done. BUT it's done and I maintained a calm positive attitude the whole time. Thankful for a good mechanic and a flexible job where I could work remotely.

Boyd Tires

Back at my favorite auto repair shop.
This waiting room (and wifi) helps the fact that it's taking a long time and is going to cost us a good bit. At least I can relax, I believe they're being honest and fair, and I'll know our car will be in good shape.

Not a Bedtime Story

Haven't slept well the last few nights. I've had a really hard time falling asleep. I think it's because of the book I'm reading before bed. Super stressful storyline. Really messy characters and situations   I think I need to find a new book to read before bed.

2030

During today's car ride, Korra and I realized that she'll graduate high school in 2030. That feels like an impossibility futuristic date.

3 hours on Ponce

Today I drove the same 9 mile section of Ponce de Leon 6 times. Took Korra to camp. Drove from camp to work. Drove back to pick Korra up and then drove home. Right after dinner we had to drive back to almost the exact same place (Korra had a bowling party with some girls from school). Thanks to terrible traffic on Ponce, that was nearly 3 hours of my day. I am not looking forward to driving it 4 times each day the rest of the week, but it sure makes me thankful that I can walk or bike to work and that this isn't my norm!

Birthday Surprise!

We drove to Pensacola last night so we could surprise my sister-in-law for her 40th birthday!
First we went out to lunch with Nate's parents (where Nate and Korra played chess).

Then we surprised Genevieve at the roller rink!
Genevieve and I skated for the full hour and a half and could have gone longer if everyone else wasn't ready to go.

Confident Climber

Watching Korra climb today, I could see such a huge difference in her confidence since Monday. The coaches were encouraging and specific in their instructions and Korra has decided to join the recreation climbing team in the fall.

Commuting Makes Me Tired

This week I'm dropping Nate off at work, coming home to get Korra, taking Korra to camp, and then driving to work. I'm in and out of the car from 7:45 until 9:15. It's not very fun. Then in the afternoon I leave work at 3:30 and it takes me 45-60 minutes to get Korra and then get home. I do not like driving during rush hour (which in Atlanta lasts for most of the day). Thankfully Korra only has 2 weeks of camp like this. I'm ready to get back to biking and walking to work.

Time To Study

I took my PHR pretest and scored a 44%.  My study materials arrived and they're a little more intimidating than I expected.

18

Today is our 18th anniversary. Nate and I went out to dinner and talked about what we've done these last 18 years. We completed 3 degrees, owned 5 cars, moved 4 times, bought and sold a house, had a baby, 3 foster teens, and 3 cats, traveled to 2 countries and 29 states, and broken 2 bones. There's no one I would rather have done it all with.

Spider-Verse

We surprised Korra and went to see Across Spider-Verse this afternoon (on opening day). It was amazing. Like I wanted to immediately watch it again. Hilarious and heartwarming and gorgeous. Highly recommend.

Redecoration Complete!

Finally finished redecorating Korra's room!

Football is Life

Yesterday afternoon, Nate and I watched the final episode of Ted Lasso.  Gosh, I love that show.  It was absolutely incredible and I definitely teared up during the season finale.
While soccer (football) was still on our minds, Nate once again managed to get us a great deal on some tickets to the Atlanta United match. Not quite as good of seats as the last two times, and quite free this time, but $20 for 4 seats is a steal!
Korra's friend was hanging out with us (same friend she spent all of Sunday with) and was able to join us for the game.
