Hug a Room

Next week I'm going to my old school to pick up a few things.  When I imagine walking back into my old library, the overwhelming feeling is the need to hug it like an old friend.  How do you hug a room?  Also, if I try, will the lady from central office assume I've lost my mind?

Am I Late?

I thought I was late this morning because it was so light out.  No, it's just that it's FINALLY not raining and that it's getting closer to spring!

My Eyes

I was showing Korra her reflection in the mirror and I noticed her eyes are now the exact same color as mine.

On the Move

Korra now rolls over both ways and can turn herself in a full circle when she's on her tummy.  She can also scoot herself off the changing table.  Watch out! Korra's on the move!

I do not like it when someone tries to talk to me while I have my hand on the bathroom doorknob.  Clearly I have somewhere I need to be.  Isn't this equally uncomfortable and awkward for you?

Signage

Got the signs up for our yard sale this Saturday.  Here's hoping it goes as well as last year's!

Disney Movies

While my assistant was pulled to sub this morning, I packed up all those old Disney VHS tapes (that we never should have had!) and sent them off to the public library!  Throwing things away when she leaves makes me feel so satisfied.

Morning Off

I took half a sick day today because Nate had a dentist appointment.  Trying to enjoy the extra time with Korra but she's being really cranky today.

Off-Season

Went through all the hand-me-downs Korra was given (again).  So many summer-ish outfits that she'll be too big for and so many winter outfits that are still too big.  Oh well.  Into the yard sale they go.

Eating Cereal

Second attempt at food tonight.  She ate a lot more of it, but also got a lot more on her face.

Bleeding Finger

I finally cut Korra's nails with the clippers (I've been biting them) and exactly what I dreaded happened.  She wiggled and I cut her finger.  She didn't cry but I almost did when I saw the blood.

Deposit!

What a fantastic way to start my morning!  Our tax refund has been deposited in our account!

Daily Emails

I still get daily emails from the teachers at my old school.  We share prayer requests, jokes, and regular reminders of just how much we miss each other.

I'm Not Observant

One of my APs told me this morning that he "did something" in the media center last night and that he wants to know how observant I am.  He wants me to email him when I figure it out, but said there's a time limit.  It's driving me batty trying to figure it out.

Stood in the hall after the kids left & talked with some teachers about cleavage & booties. Good end to my workday.

I Know What's Coming

75% of all statements my assistant make begin with the phrases, "Well the thing of it is" and "Let me tell you something."  Both indicate that I am not about to enjoy the next 5 minutes.

College Information

AL used my cell phone number when she signed up for scholarship and college information websites.  Once a week I get a phone call where someone tries to convince me that even though I'm not AL, that "this program is for anyone."  I cannot seem to convince them I am not interested in information on a technical school.

Persistence

Today I learned the value of persistence (aka, bugging the crap out of someone).  I finally found out who is in charge is dispersing the materials from my old school and have emailed her daily with things I want/need.  Today she responded and said that I should stop emailing her, make a list, and that in a couple days she'll just take me over there to get whatever I want.  Ha!

Library Date

Took Korra on a little after school date to the public library.  We had a good time and it was fitting to show her around where her parents had their first date.

AC Germ Prevention?

My assistant keeps turning on the AC, insisting that it prevents the spreading of germs.  Is there any truth to this?  (I'm doubtful)

Oratorical contest going on hour three... The kids & parents are getting restless. 3 more speeches to go...

Oratorical contest in the library again. Should be a nice, quiet, slightly boring morning.

Rice Cereal

Korra tried her first few spoonfuls of rice cereal tonight.  She didn't love or hate it.  She swallowed some and spit some out.  Overall, a success.

Cell Phone Obsessed

Korra is enthralled with my cell phone.  She gets super excited whenever I take it out, tries to grab it out of my hand, and works really hard to scoot towards it when she's on the floor.  Not even 6 months old and already wants a cell phone?  The tween years are going to be hard!

Made dinner for us and a friend who just had a baby and baked pretzels and brownies.

Free At Last

Though I accomplished quite a bit today (yard sale pricing, 3 loads of laundry, sewed a crib skirt), my greatest feat was managing not to put a bra on all day.  This is a big deal for a nursing mama such as myself.

3 Day Weekend Kick-off

Starting this long weekend with an 8 hour stretch of sleep (thanks, Korra! ) and a blueberry muffin (thanks, Nate/Starbucks!).

Exciting Friday Night

Nate's working tonight, so Korra and I went up to Starbucks to bring him dinner.  Now I plan to go to bed approximately 5 minutes after Korra does.

Sounds of Yoga

Last night at yoga, the woman next to me sounded like she was coughing up a lung.  A couple weeks ago, the man next to me groaned in a very PG-13 sort of way with EVERY pose.  Is it any wonder that I'm having trouble relaxing during yoga?

Petting Mrs.

Korra loves to pet Mrs Reynolds and believe it or not, Mrs loves it too!

Begging

Student crying in my office begging me not to call her mom over a cell phone I took up.  She said that "this is the worst day of her life" and that she was going to be "grounded forever."  That I was the "meanest, most strict teacher ever" and that she doesn't know why I hate her.  A little over-dramatic?

The middle school drama is at an all time high today.

Visiting Baby

A former teacher turned stay-at-home-mom visited today with her 7 month old baby.  Jealousy oozed out of my every pore.

Oratorical Contest

They're holding the oratorical contest in the media center today.  My office is right behind where they set up the podium.  I'm not really sure where I should be and what I should be doing.

Chicken Pizza

Our friend Chris brought us this amazing chicken bacon pizza AND cheesy bread for dinner tonight.  Highlight of my day.

More Cleaning

Cleaned out the math manipulative closet and the dark room today.  Yes, you read that right- we have a dark room (aka closet) in the media center.  Full of chemicals no one's used in 15 years.

New Paint

Shelve-Backs

We have these cheap metal shelves in the library.  They have a huge gap in the middle where the books fall down.  I commissioned the school carpenter to build backs to all the shelves.  Today they are complete.  One step closer to a functional media center.

Bath Water

When I put Korra on her tummy in the tub, she very carefully lowers her face to the surface of the water and then proceeds to lap up the bath water.  Ewww.

My Mom is AMAZING

With Mom's help, we not only painted the kitchen and dining room, we also thoroughly cleaned and organized both rooms.

Mom is helping me paint the kitchen & dining room a more bland color. Goodbye bright blues. I guess we really are going to move.

Rearranging

I'm moving around the shelves and computers.  I will make this place functional.

Visit From Mom

My mom is coming this afternoon to spend the weekend with us!

It's Tense

Had a confrontation with my assistant (with the help of my principal).  While it needed to be done, I still HATE how tense things are now.  I do not like being disliked.

Cake Pops

Nate closed at Starbucks last night so today I had a muffin for breakfast, a sandwich for lunch, and cake pops for dessert.

An ocean sounds CD become a lot less relaxing when played on a loop for days at a time.  Guess how I know this.

Just finished touching up all the yellow paint in the house. Here's hoping it matches!

HR lady calls a meeting. Purpose of said meeting is to give HER feedback, yet she repeatedly left- telling us to talk among ourselves. So pointless.

Super exciteed about the meeting I'm about to go to because I'll get to see some old teacher friends!

101 new books arrived yesterday.  51 more arrived today.  Yay, New Books!

Blocked Websites

I hate the internet filter the school system uses.  The public library's website is blocked.

Disney Movies

I found we have a hidden collection of Disney VHS tapes.  I plan to trash them before the week's end.  No matter what my assistant says, there is no reason for a middle school to own those.

Korra has figured out how to pull off her socks (which she then puts in her mouth).

Sick Day

Read, watched TV, took a nap, snuggled with Korra, did some online shopping with our tax refund.  Feeling much better.  Hopefully everything will be OK at school tomorrow.

Called in sick (cold got worse) only to find my assistant is sick too. Might have to go in anyway.

Almost 4 years after getting this tattoo and it still gets raised and itchy sometimes.

Written Reprimand

Got a written reprimand today for not emailing or calling my AP every time I leave the building early (even for a system-wide meeting) or when I'm running late (those 2 times I was 3 minutes late).  I mean, she's right, but it still sucks.

Not Very Relaxing

I wish I could get my assistant to understand that classical music is a lot less relaxing when it's played on full volume.
