Rain Hike

Took the kids on a 2.5 hour hike in the rain. Great way to spend my afternoon!

Fair

Some new friends invited us to the fair today. Korra loved every single ride.

Dinner at Brickstore with PopPop

Flexible Friday

Scrapped all my plans for the day because 1) the weather was too pretty to stay inside and 2) I completely forgot about the Black History program. Outside all day!

Math Champ

7th grade did a Hunger Games reaping probability activity. 6th grade made clay towers and measured them for histogram data. AND I learned my students showed the most growth in the school on a recent test. Killing it, math teacher style.

Small Group

We've been going to a weekly small group with our new church. It often feels like the best kind of group therapy.  I am really enjoying getting to know these people. This evening ended with setting up a group text with 3 other ladies to encourage each other and share cat memes.

Kindergarten

Korra officially got a spot in the kindergarten at my school for next year and I've got a stack of registration paperwork to prove it. So excited!

Private Zumba Lesson

I was the only one who showed up to Zumba last night so I had a one-on-one class with the instructor. Thankfully it wasn't too weird.

Bragging

I checked the reading level of the books Korra's been reading (without much trouble) and she's reading at a 1st grade level. I am so proud of her!

Egg Toss

Today my 6th graders gathered data for our statistics unit by doing an egg toss. It was fun and only one kid ended up with raw egg on his face.

Vday

Nate grilled steak and asparagus for dinner and bought me a bottle of Moscato d'Asti.  Now we're eating Valentine's chocolates from our students and watching Last Week Tonight.

Sex Ed

After a couple of reschedulings, I taught my first sex ed class yesterday. It went so well. I'm looking forward to the next one!

New Park

Tried out a new park this afternoon with some neighbors. The weather was so mild and the park was really nice. Looking forward to going back again soon.

Brunch #2

This morning we had our second brunch in as many days with our friends Beth and Kelley and their daughter (our god-daughter) Dell.  Brunch is the best!

King of Tokyo

We played King of Tokyo as a family tonight. Even though it was Korra's first time playing, Nate killed off her character without mercy.

Brunch #1

Had mimosas and quiche with some new friends while our kids played on a bouncy house. A good morning all around!

Baby Goats

I love being at a school where administrators had to be called because the baby goats got out and we're blocking the road.

Names

Korra has been on a naming kick. Not only do all her toys have names, but she's named all her shoes (left pink one is Audrey, the right pink shoe is Aubra) and even her own feet (Luke and Lucy).

Life Ruined

Today I "ruined" a student's "entire life." I emailed her mom about some poor choices and now she won't get to have her 13th birthday party next week and basically her life is now ruined. Yep. That was my day.

Emails

Have I mentioned the emails?  I probably receive 40+ school emails a day. I used to be someone who rarely kept an email unread and my inbox was nearly empty at the end of each day with every important email sorted into a folder and archived. Now I'm lucky if I read all the emails that looked important based on the subject and half of my inbox is starred because they require me to do something I don't have time to do yet. I keep telling myself it will be easier next year. I hope it's true because I love this job but I exhausted.

Grading

I am so tired of grading papers.

That's not an emergency

Danny called me 5 times in less than 3 minutes at about 1:30 today. I texted him, "I'm teaching. Is it an emergency?  Is something wrong?" He replies immediately, "yes, something is wrong. I need to talk to you now."  I get someone to cover my class and call him. My heart is racing. I'm sure he's hurt or in jail. When he answers the phone I say, "are you ok?  What's wrong?"  And he says, "I'm doing my taxes. How many dependents should I claim?"

"... Danny, that is not an emergency."

4T

Went through Korra's clothes today after she mentioned her ankles were cold. Mom of the Year over here. I didn't really notice some of her pants were too short. She's actually wearing some 4t clothes now!  She's not been in her "correct" size in anything since 3 months!  Still only weighs 29 pounds but those legs of hers are growing!

The Prodigal Son

Danny came by for a visit!

Taxes

Thanks to the large tub of Legos that Korra hasn't taken out in months, I was able to file our taxes without much interruption. In their honor, Nate plans to use part of our refund to buy a big new set.

Early Saturday Morning

Up early to be the first one at the auto repair shop. Hopefully I'll get all my papers graded while I wait and be out in time for Zumba.

Date Night

My brother came to babysit so Nate and I went on a date. We are our way through Ponce City Market and the after realizing we were too tired to wait 45 minutes for a table at our favorite var/restaurant but that it was too early to go home we wandered through Target. A good (though not amazing) date night.

Kindergarten

Nate had a meeting at my school this afternoon, so Korra got to spend a little time with the kindergarten. She loved it!

Testing

Testing this week so schedules are crazy. I've spent most of the afternoon on the field sending kids to test as others finish. Not a bad way to spend this pretty afternoon.
