Yeah, there was an article in cooks illustrated about that. Everyone admitted that there's nothing better than the box. It has to do with using two types of fat. I didn't try it but maybe one day I will.
i don't make from scratch brownies for that reason too. i've made dozens of batches, i've never made anything that tasted as good and i've given up.
