I did a little research on the cicada plague. Turns out these are 13 year cicadas- they've been hibernating since 1998. Knowing that they won't be back until 2024 (and that they won't destroy our garden) helps, but their sheer number is still disgusting. Here are a few pictures. Please bear in mind, I went and swept them all off the side of the house YESTERDAY.
