Professional Learning Modules

Today I've watched 11 professional learning videos (approximately three and a half  hours). Not exactly fun, but better than sitting in a meeting of equal length because I packed and planned lessons while watching.

Still Napping

Korra's been asleep for 3 and a half hours.
I've gotten a lot of schoolwork done.

Momentos

Nate and I spent the morning going through our boxes of photo albums, love letters, year books, and childhood toys. Korra was kept very entertained by her "new" Barbies, action figures, and stuffed animals. Nate and I pared down in preparation for our new (much small) house and had a nice trip down memory lane.

Late Night

Korra's still awake because we're still having out with our friends who are moving to Oregon on Sunday morning.

Bad Moms

Went to see Bad Moms with some neighbor ladies. And we might have snuck in a bottle of wine.

Rental Success!

We found a place we like!  There are definitely pros (big background, hardwood floors, well within our price range) and cons (super small kitchen, very little storage) but it feels like the right place for us. It's still bring renovated so it might be a few weeks before we can move (meaning a few more weeks of commuting) but I'm glad we're moving forward!

More Rentals

Got home last night at 10:30. Leaving again this morning by 8:30 to drive back to Atlanta to look at a few more places. We are exhausted.
Also, I discovered last night that I have a dozen chigger bites on my torso. But I still love my new school. Yesterday we hiked to a waterfall that is on our campus where the kids play in the water when it's hot.
Everything about moving and this new job is difficult but I realized that I don't want to make my life choices based on what is easy. Life is too short to stay comfortable. The easiest way is rarely the most rewarding.
PS- this is my pep talk to myself because I'm overwhelmed by my To Do list and all I want to do is sleep. But I really do believe it.

Rental Search

Looking for rental houses today. We really suck at this. We've been to 6 places but only inside one because the property managers either don't show up when they said they would or won't call me back. So frustrating.

My New School

Here are some reasons I love my new school:
  • Our discussion about discipline focused on Restorative Justice
  • My room has a whole wall of windows
  • My administrators model how they want us to teach during our training
  • I got to paint outside for 30 minutes yesterday
  • There is a constant emphasis on building relationships

Good but Exhausted

I want to write more about my new teacher orientation, but I'm too busy and too tired. Korra is having a hard time adjusting to my return to work and so requires every bit of my attention from the minute I get home at 5 until I go to bed. I also have a million things to do for school but it will just have to wait. In short, I'm loving my new school and coworkers. I'm so excited about this coming school year but right now, I'm mostly just tired.

So tired

I stayed up too late hanging out with neighbor friends.  I am really dragging this morning.

New Teacher Orientation

I'm having fun!  I love my new school and coworkers!

Commute

And so begins my first day of new teacher orientation... with an hour commute and a prayer we are able to find a new place soon.

Pensacola

Back from a relaxing few days in Pensacola with Nate's family. Getting away from the house was exactly what we needed. I feel ready (mostly) to start my new job tomorrow!

Candler Park Day School

Nate accepted a position teaching at Candler Park Day School!  Korra will be attending preschool there so now we are all set for next year except for the whole where we'll live thing :)

Done (mostly)

We finished the floor last night... mostly. Thanks to a borrowed miter saw and nail gun, we got all the molding done. We still have to clean the extra glue off there floor and paint a few spots on the trim but we just could not muster the physical strength to do it. We are so sore and tired. So instead we did laundry, baked muffins, played with Perler beads, looked at rental houses on Zillow, and packed for our last little trip of the summer. On our way to 5 days in Pensacola to visit with Nate's parents!

Home Depot

Third trip today

One Week

I start my new job in one week.
I'm excited about it but I feel totally overwhelmed. There's still so much to do with the house and finding a new place, not to mention setting up my classroom and getting my lessons together. Trying to just take it in moment at a time and remember it won't be this hard for very long.

Korra

Korra has been exceptionally whiney and clingy the past few weeks. I know why but there's not much we can do to fix the root cause. She can tell Nate and I are stressed. She can tell there's a lot of change happening (just the state of our house during this project plus some packing, not to mention what we've told her about moving). Add that we've been giving her very little attention due to hours of working on the floor and we've got a challenging child- and not much hope if things getting better anytime soon. After the floors are done we'll be packing. I'll start back to work. We'll move. She'll start at a new school. I wish I knew what to do besides give her lots of cuddles at night, remind her we love her and she is safe, and pray for more patience when she has her 7th meltdown temper-tantrum of the afternoon.

Yard Sale

Yesterday we got the kitchen finished so now all that's left is the living room (entry hall and dining room are done too). It's really nice to have a fully functional kitchen again.
This morning we're having a yard sale in the hope of selling off a good portion of our worldly possessions (thus making moving so much easier and hopefully making some money to pay for these daily trips to Home Depot).

"Break"

Taking a short break from the floor this morning. First bringing Danny to work (so he can apologize to the supervisor for the argument with a co-worker that lead to him getting fired yesterday) and then Nare and I both have eye doctor appointments. After that we'll love all the furniture from the living room to the kitchen and start on the living room floor. Fingers crossed we'll have all the floors done by tomorrow!

6am

Wide awake every morning at 6am no matter how tired I am or what time I went to sleep. I can't stop thinking about what we have to do to get the house ready to rent or about my new job or about finding a new house. Thankfully, I'm not having trouble falling asleep but it's still annoying to wake up so early and not be able to get back to sleep, especially when I can't actually do anything on my enormous to do list at this time of day.

Sore

Spent all day scraping linoleum, measuring, cutting, and gluing the new flooring. I have blisters all over my hands, my knees are raw, are rest of my body is aching. We are stinky, sweaty, sticky, and sore. And not nearly done.
