Application

I've been filling out an application for a teaching position at a prestigious private school for over a week.  I just can't bring myself to click "send" yet...

Tidal Wave

This is what I feel like: I am sitting on the beach. The sun is shining and everything is calm. But off in the distance I can see this huge wave- maybe even a tsunami. It's coming at me but there's nothing I can do about it. I could worry or run around, but there's no point. It'll get here soon enough, so I just sit back and try to enjoy my last few minutes of peace.
The wave is coming in May. It's when my school closes and Nate graduates and AL graduates and so much stuff will happen at once that I might just drown. Or I might not. I'll just try to relax while I can.

La-zy

Besides cleaning the bathtub and making myself a mini pizza, I have not gotten up off the couch since I got home. Sometimes I just need to be lazy.

Napping Weather

This rainy weather has made me sleepy.  Thankfully our faculty meeting has been cancelled so I can go home and nap!

When I'm Dead

Had a really interesting conversation with a group of 6th graders about being an organ donor/donating your body to science. Sometimes working at a middle school is really fun.

Free Tattoo (cont)

AL and I talked for 30 minutes last night about her getting a free tattoo. She insists she really wants one, but that she doesn't want to have to pay for it. I insist that if you only want something if it's free, you don't really want it that much. It seems we will never see eye-to-eye on this.

Vending Machine Coke

I just bought my first Coke out of a vending machine since high school.  It's weird to be back on caffeine.

Fear of Migraine

I woke up at 6 AM with a headache and nearly had a panic attack. Drank some coffee, took my extra strength Tylonol, and I'm feeling better but I think I will live in near constant fear of another migraine for quite some time.

Funny Quote

Nate was watching the tv show Archer and I hear this line... "If I wanted to sit around all day going nowhere, I'd be a teacher."

Cereal Party!

Went to our neighbor's house, enjoyed several bowls of cereal and a few rounds of a board game.

Jenni and Lindsay!

Jenni and Lindsay are coming to visit for a couple hours this afternoon! Yay!

Free Tattoos

A new tattoo shop is opening in our town and in the little free paper that comes in the mail it is advertising FREE small tattoos on it's opening day. I rolled my eyes at this and threw the paper away. AL fished the paper out of the trash and approached me this morning about going to get her very own free tattoo. I tried talking to her about how important it is to find a trustworthy, talented tattoo artist since you'll have it FOREVER (I know from personal experience), but I think it fell on deaf ears...

3 Hours

Got discharged at about 10:50 AM, came home, took a shower, and went to bed. My head feels "bruised" which is apparently normal for severe migraines. Thankful I have the weekend to fully recover.

Discharged

Getting discharged from the hospital is one of the most frustratingly show experiences of all time.  I was told I was "good to go" at 7:55 AM.  Let's see how long until I actually walk out the door...

Not Comfortable

It is very hard to rest in a hospital. There's the constant noise and interruptions (change my IV, check my vitals) but then there's also the fact that I cannot get comfortable enough to fall asleep. Mostly it's the damn gown that's always twisted and the constant fear I'm going to rip the IV out of my arm...

So I'm in the Hospital...

The doctor was concerned about my headache so he sent me to the hospital to see the neurologist. After a minor freak out when the nurse mentioned a lumbar puncture (aka spinal tap), it was determined that it's most likely a migraine. They're keeping me overnight for fluids and observation. Headache improving, though I'm not especially happy to be spending the night here.

Headache- Day 2

It's still here. Worst headache ever. Stayed home. Going to the dr in a bit.

God is Watching

After catching some 4th graders cheating, I had them write about "why cheating is a bad idea."  One came back today with this statement: Cheating is like lieing and if you lie, you will have a bad life because God is watching and it's like you are lieing to God and that is really bad.

I Hate Headaches

When I wake up with a headache, I know it's going to be with me all. day. long.

The Help

AL read The Help over the long weekend, so tonight we're watching the movie together.

Big Book Time of Year

It's the time of year when, suddenly, all the 3rd graders try to check out the biggest book they can find in the library.  When asked why, most respond with a statement about looking smart.  While I'm glad carrying around big books is a yearly trend, I wish the trend was actually reading those big books..

Beauty Queens

Over the long weekend I finished the book Beauty Queens by Libba Bray.  The basic plot is that a plane full of teen pageant contestants crashes on a deserted island, but it's a whole lot more than that.  Full of plenty of witty social commentary, this book was funny, thought provoking, and though a bit too mature for middle schoolers, thoroughly enjoyable.

After a Trip

The first day back at work after a trip, even a short 3 day one, is almost always rough.  I feel overwhelmed even though there's nothing to be particularly overwhelmed about and tired even though I had a very restful long weekend.

Bad Traffic Makes for Bad Mood

Got stuck in horrible traffic on the way back from Mobile (with no apparent reason!) which put me in a horrible mood. I don't want to do the housework that needs to be done. I don't want to go to school tomorrow. I don't want to do anything. Except maybe whine.

Pancakes!

My wonderful father-in-law is making me pancakes for breakfast!
