Trainings

More CPR training this afternoon.  A whole day of AR training tomorrow.  Bleh.

Weird Dreams

Korra woke up crying and saying, "Get out of my room, balloons!"
I had a dream that a water snake tricked my brother into getting bit by baiting him with a can of Mountain Dew.

2 Year Check-Up

Korra now weighs 21.6 lbs and is 31 inches tall. The doctor was a little concerned with her fast heartbeat so she sent us to get blood work done (especially since thyroid issues run in our family). Korra was a real trooper through it all. The doctor also wants her to get an EKG done but we're still not sold on that one. (Our pediatrician tends to be a bit overly cautious).

Another Half Day

Taking a half sick day today so I can bring Korra to her 2 year check up.  I am very thankful to have a job where I can do things like this.

Curtains

One of the things I miss most about my old library is the windows- a big wall of windows that overlooked azalea bushes, dogwoods, and across to the college campus.  Here I have 8 small cloudy windows, right up at the ceiling so that all I can see is the roof of the next wing over.  At least I got some natural light and could kind of tell if it was raining- until today.  My principal complained that there was a glare in her eyes at our last meeting in here so I have new blue curtains.  And while they are technically prettier than my old view, I miss that little bit of natural light.

Exhausted

Korra woke up crying at least 8 times last night. The lack of sleep plus a 4 hour drive has left me feeling totally wiped out. Going to bed super early in the hopes that I'll feel ready for a week of work.

I Pee When I Want

Here is why I love road-tripping without Nate:  I can stop to pee whenever I want without feeling guilty. I can listen to back-to-back episodes of This American Life. I can adjust the volume every 30 seconds.
Here is why I hate road-tripping without Nate:  I cannot go to sleep.  I miss Nate.

Road Trip

Taking my first solo road trip with Korra.  We're leaving early in the morning for Columbia, SC to attend my soon-to-be sister-in-law's bridal shower.  I'm really looking forward to meeting her family and spending some time with my brother, sister, nephew, and mom, though I'm a little nervous about the 8 total hours in the car with Korra.

Big Spender

I just spent more than a third of my yearly library budget.  Spending thousands to dollars in one go makes me feel both giddy and a little sick to my stomach.

Holding Babies

Brought dinner to our neighbors who had a baby a few weeks ago and then went to the hospital to visit another neighbor who had a baby yesterday. I got to do a lot of baby-holding this evening!

23 Minutes

It took 23 minutes on the phone with my insurance company to find out if the flu shot is covered at a pharmacy.

You Should Comment

Thanks, Danielle for the suggestion!  I love the excuse/reminder to do something special for someone.

Name Painting

Check out Korra's painting!

CPR Training

The whole staff had CPR training yesterday.  I guess my previous certifications showed because I'm now on the emergency response team.

I find it intolerable when someone tells me no without letting me explain why they should say yes. I know it's childish and prideful and controlling. Knowing that doesn't change how much it upsets me. I think I'd even be ok with the no if I just got to try to explain myself. But explaining yourself after you've been told no is seen as unprofessional so I'll just vent on my blog and try not to obsess over it all evening.

Korra at Two

She loves to sing but won't do it unless she feels like it. She also loves music and dancing.

Korra likes Frozen, Fancy Nancy, Avatar, and Sesame Street.

She loves to read books to herself. It's amazing how much she remembers.

Korra recognizes nearly all her letters and can count to 13. She also knows most of her colors and a few shapes.

When she prays she says, "Dear Dog, thank you Nobby and Mrs. Amen."

When responding to any question in the affirmative, Korra says, "Yes. Yes, I did."

She still loves bathtime (and water in general).

Korra sleeps with her blankie and sucks her thumb. She goes to sleep easily and happily.

She likes to eat anything chocolate. She also likes bell peppers, black beans, scrambled eggs, pancakes, and milk.

Birthday Cake

Labor Day

I woke up to go to the bathroom at 5am this morning, just like I did 2 years ago. I almost couldn't fall back asleep because I remembered how I thought I was peeing my pajamas before I realized my water had broken. My labor officially began at 5am though I didn't feel a contraction for 12 hours. I went on 2 walks in the sweltering heat, I picked up around the house, showered and shaved my legs, watched a movie, called family and a doula I'd never met. We went to the hospital at 6:30pm and much to the nurses' surprise, Korra Mae arrived at 10:08pm. As amazing as that day was, I think I'm going to enjoy this Labor Day better!

More Grandparents!

Korra and I spent the morning and early afternoon with my parents (they left a little before 3) and then Nate's parents arrived for dinner and bedtime.  Korra sure loves her MoMo, Grandad, GG, and PopPop!

Grandparents

My parents arrived shortly after we returned from DragonCon. We went swimming together, went out for pizza, and then she played with her new birthday gifts until a hour past when she should have been asleep. I think Korra had a fun day!

Korra as Korra

Parade!

Taking Korra to the DragonCon parade this morning and then meeting up with some friends for lunch. Photos of Korra's Korra costume to follow!

Crowns and Bubbles

Friday Before Labor Day

On the Friday before Labor Day, two years ago, I came home from work with plans to eat popcorn and ice cream for dinner and play hours of Plants vs Zombies. Nate would be at DragonCon all weekend and I was enormously pregnant. My neighbor convinced me to take a 39 Weeks Pregnant photo even though I could barely stand the thought of one more minute on my swollen feet.

Girls' Day!

Nate went off to DragonCon this morning so I took a half day.  I was really excited to spend a day with the girls and also to see a bit of what Nate's day looks like.  I picked up LN from preschool, made lunch, begged the girls to eat said lunch, and then put them down for naps.  Fingers crossed those last for about an hour and a half.  In the afternoon, we're going to make crowns and play with soapy water (with whisks and straws!)  It's a great start to my 3.5 day weekend!
