Shopping Spree

I decided to do a giant book order and spend every last penny of my budget by Monday.  I want to get whatever books these kids want to read before the end of the year.

I'm Bored

Like 80% of my job is maintaining and improving the collection, but there's no point in that since in a few months it'll all be divided up, put in boxes, and shipped to other schools.  So with most of my work now pointless, I'm super bored.  Maybe I'll just "model positive learning behavior" and sit on the couch and read until May.

What Do I Say

I don't know what to say to my library assistant.  They've cut all assistant positions for next year.  He's hard to talk to about usual stuff, so I have no idea what to say about this.

Downton Abbey

Just finished watching the first season of Downton Abbey. I really enjoyed it and am happy to learn that I can watch season two on the PBS website!

I Could Cry

So the kids all know.  Some ask questions.  Some focus only on how it will impact them.  Some are sensitive.  One 5th grade boy just came in and after getting his book paused and said, "Mrs. B, you're a great librarian."

Lack of Motivation

Unsurprisingly, I have no motivation to do any work today besides check out books to the kids.  What's the point?

Un-anchored

My whole adult life has been grounded and shaped by this school.  My job there is why we're in this city, why we bought this house.  It's experiences there that lead us to become foster parents.  By losing this job, I'm losing a whole part of myself.  I'm un-anchored.

So Painful

It's so painful to be here at school today.  This has been my home in many ways for the last 6 years.

Trying to Be Hopeful

God must have something crazy awesome in store for us if it requires that our life becomes so rattled and turned upside down.

This Sucks Big Time

They're closing my school. They're cutting my position. I don't know if I have a job next year.

Worrying

One of my coworkers today said that I don't seem like the kind of person who worries very much.  There are three possible reasons she would think this.
  1. I'm a good actor.
  2. She doesn't know me very well.
  3. I am becoming less of a worrier than I used to be.
I really hope it's the 3rd one.  I've been working hard at letting things go, trusting God, trying to be peaceful.  Maybe it's working.

Super Bowl

I don't really care about football, but I really like eating good food and hanging out with friends.

Friends are Wonderful

Had such a fantastic time at Jenni's shower yesterday. I can't say enough how wonderful it is to have 3 girl friends who I've known for so long and who I still enjoy being around so much.

Jenni's Shower!

Yay! Today's Jenni's shower! Just a 2 hour car ride stand between me and some awesome girl time!

Baking Fiend

Tonight I attempted not one, but TWO new recipes: lemon poppy seed pound cake and mini Nutella pies. Normally, trying new recipes is fun for me, but this was a little stressful because the outcomes are for Jenni's baby shower tomorrow. I want them to be delicious and beautiful and I want people to think that I'm a good cook. Neither turned out as pretty as I wanted, but hopefully both will be as yummy as the reviews promised.

Nate is Pretty Awesome

Nate passed his Bible Content Exam!  One more step towards graduation!

Princesses!

I get to see the Princess tomorrow for Jenni's baby shower!

More Appointments

I've got to make an appointment for AL to get a physical for track AND one for a specialist at Emory's vocal center.  Too many medical appointments!!!

11 Hours

Thanks to play practice, I was at school for almost 11 hours today. I am pooped.

Ron Clark!

I get to go to the Ron Clark Academy next Friday!

TOM's Ballet Flats

I was so excited to see the new TOM's ballet flats that finally went on sale today and then... they're $80?!  That is just too much money for a pair of canvas flats...

New Vacuum

We are about to purchase the 4th vacuum of our married life. That's just 2 years per vacuum! Ugh. But if you've got carpet and cats and friends who come in and out, you've got to have it. Here's hoping this one (just as well researched as the last, I might add) lasts a big longer.

See, Nate? I Don't Just Babysit Books!

My AP was in the media center for an hour or so working on one of the computers while hers was being fixed. It was kind of nice to have someone be in here (who usually isn't) to see what I do every day. It also made me aware of just how diverse my job is. During the time she was in here, I helped students find books, fixed a software glitch, replaced the bulb in an overhead projector, checked books in and out, sent out reservation notices, and discussed with a teacher which picture she took to send to the newspaper.

Keeping Resolutions

Thanks to the super mild January we've had, I've managed to walk 2 miles a day, 5 days a week for almost the whole month. Too bad I haven't kept my water drinking or sweet-quitting resolutions quite as faithfully...

Book Shelf Karma

I have vivid memories of walking up and down the aisles of the library as a child and pushing all of the books back on the shelves.  Now as a librarian, I go behind the students, pulling the books back to the front of the shelves.
